Optional Spelling Practice (Extra Credit)
Any one of these choices may be completed and handed in, at the end of each week, for extra credit and preparation for our weekly spelling tests. If you have any different ideas you would like me to consider, just let me know! I am open to adding more fun and creative options to this list! Spelling words will be posted online (at the bottom of this page) each week, below are the spelling options.
Optional Creative Spelling Options
1. Crossword puzzle - Create a crossword puzzle using at least 10 of your spelling words. Have a friend solve your puzzle.
2. Word search - Create a word search using at least 10 of your spelling words. have a friend solve your puzzle.
3. Story words - Write a silly story using at least 10 of your spelling words.
4. Ransom words - Write your spelling words by cutting our letters from a newspaper or magazine and glue them on paper.
5. 30 second words - Write a TV commercial using at least 10 of this week's spelling words. You may just turn in the script, or turn in the script and perform it for the class!
6. Cheer words - Come up with a cheer using at least 10 of this week's spelling words. You may just turn in the script, or turn in the script and perform it for the class!
7. Wordle - Go to www.wordle.net to create a word cloud using all your spelling words. Print it out to turn in.
8. Newspaper words - Write a newspaper article using at least 10 of this week's spelling words.
9. Tricky words - Write down/show tricks you use to remember each of your spelling words.
10. Caption words - Cut out a picture from a newspaper or magazine and use spelling words to write a story about the picture.
11. Parts of speech words - Create a table or thinking map to classify/group your words by parts of speech (ex. noun, verb, adjective, adverb, etc.)
12. Letter words - Write a letter to a friend using all of your spelling words.
13. Synonym and antonym words - Write a synonym and antonym for each of your spelling words (ex. If the spelling word is "difficult," I could write "hard" for a synonym and "easy" for an antonym.)
14. Cartoon words - Write a comic strip with illustrations using at least 8 of your spelling words.
15. Spelling song - Write a song using at least 10 of your spelling words. You may just turn in the script, or turn in the script and perform it for the class!
*If any supplies (magazines, newspaper, etc.) are needed to complete a spelling assignment please talk to me about it and I can provide them. These are optional assignments for critical thinking and creativity.*
